It was commercial time & what do they decide to advertise during a kid friendly movie but.....
birth control.
Mirena to be exact.
Not sure if you've heard of this one, as it's fairly new (at least to me) but it's effective for five years or something along those lines.
Well, during the ad my ever so observant daughter starts to ask me questions - especially when they showed a picture of the thing. (It's a Y shaped plastic thingy.)
G: "What is that for?"
Me: "It's supposed to help mommies not have babies."
G: "Oh....how does it work?"
Me: "I'm not sure." (Not totally a lie.)
G: "Maybe you swallow it...... or put it on your teeth,....... or maybe in your ear,..... or even in your belly button (laughs & giggles)."
Me: "Maybe."
End of conversation - I deployed distraction techniques: "G, want some cookies?"
I guess one day I'm gonna have to have a talk with that girl and if you really have to put it in your ear - no wonder it works for five years!

ROFLOL!!!!!!! Why do they advertise those things during kids shows??????? CRAZY!!
Great way to dodge that bullet!! Phew! Believe it or not, my girls haven't asked me any question like that. I'm just waiting....
BTW, my girls and I love the music on your blog!
I hate those kinds of commercials during family/childrens programming. You handled it well. Now I hope she doesn't start a conversation with someone at school about putting a Y shaped thingy in your ear so you don't have a baby! hehe
LOL! Great post! I HATE those commercials! Do I really have to sing it again? OK....Vivaaaaa Viagra! ;) Ang
I love Matilda too. And why do they advertise Mirena and Viagra during kid movies?
Ok ... Im laughing so hard... so sweet and so dear. Wish they could stay that way forever~
Oh my goodness you do make me laugh!
As for putting it your ear it would probably cause less cramps that way! :)
I can't believe some of the commercials they have on TV now. We finally broke down and got a DVR recorder. We now tape the program and watch it a 1/2 after it starts so we can zoom thru the commercials!
I think you handled your daughters questions beautifully!
Robin~♥
Oh how funny!
I'll never understand why they put those types of commercials on during kids' shows, either. But I do love your distraction tecniques. :)
How cute! Kids ask the cutest questions and their innocence is hilarious.
Nothing surprises me anymore with TV, commericals, prime time, and what they would like for us to think the norm is...they sure are making a parents life tougher than it need be. Luckily I'm still on Noggin:) but my 7 year old is venturing away...
That is hilarious! Cookies were definitely used wisely in that situation, if you ask me! Oh, and I think my daughter and I might have to check out Matilda now! :)

Hey girl - it's good to be back...thanks for stopping by as always....you make me laugh. Can't wait for the day when I have to have this talk with K - should be fun..ha! :)
HEEE HEEE that is funny.....Those stupid commercials can spoil a perfectly great moment!
Oh my gosh~ a riot! I am so not looking forward to the talk. Yikes! Cookies~ good distraction girl!!!
LOL! In the ear, huh? LOLOL! I never had these slightly uncomfortable moments with my daughter. I guess since she is 15, things weren't quite as explicit when she was young. But my SON is 9, and we have had quite a few....and I really could bypass those! LOL! Go see your daddy, is what I suggest to him! :) ~Rhonda
Love your keen sense of humor - so glad my princess is still too young to ask such questions. I know it's coming though.
That is all kinds of wrong....=)
However, I personally have the Mirena and I LOVE IT! If you are in the market for Birth control (not during childs programming)! I have had mine for 4 years and I have had maybe 3 periods in that time....LOVE IT!
