The Unhappy Telemarketer

I have to admit that it's been a while since I've had any telemarketing calls, but since we have a new number that's not on the Do Not Call Registry....that's all we've been getting.

I've been qualified to win hundreds of thousands of dollars, I've been offered magazines out the wazoo, and I've received a new satellite dish system. I've politely declined them all and until the other day all of the callers were okay with that. "Goodbye and have a good day, Ma'am." they would all say.

Until.....Friday afternoon I answered a call that had the id of a marketing company.

It went a little something like this:

Me: "Hello"

Crazy Telemarketer: "Hi, may I speak to the person in charge of making your internet decisions?"

Me: "You are, but we've just been set up and we're not interested in changing."

Crazy Telemarketer: "I'm not even trying to talk to you about your internet. I'm was going to talk to you about your telephone and try to save you some money."

Me: Pause......thinking...."No she didn't!"

Me: "Well, we've just gotten set up with that as well...and don't you get snippy with me."

Crazy Telemarketer: "I'm not getting snippy with you, Ma'am. I'm just trying.....blah, blah, blah."

Me: CLICK

I sat there for a minute to let this scenario sink in, then I went to find my husband to tell him all about this insane woman who had called ME in the first place. I do believe the goal of her call was to somehow get ME to spend MY money with THEIR company.

Not the way to handle it.

I think she needs a new career path and I need to register our new number.

I hate telemarket calls. I think they are so mean because they always get turned down...so right, they need to find other work to do. Is there anything that can make these call go away for good. They always start calling me when my daughter takes her nap....

I had a lady from Wells Fargo last week calling about life insurance. I politely told her I'm not interested. She just kept going on so I hung up. A few minutes later she called back and as soon as I answered she hung up on me. I guess she wanted revenge. I would surely hate that job. :-)

Hi, Duchess, thanks for stopping by to see me. Thank you SO much for the link to the Do not Call list. My parents were just asking me this weekend to please put their mountain house phone # on the list, as they get WAY too many telemarkers up there. I've just done that!

You know what really drives me up a wall? When I get a call and they ask for let's say...Mrs. Smith. I tell them you have the wrong number, there is no Mrs. Smith here. Then I get "Well, that's okay! I'd like to talk to you about ...blah blah blah..." Is this their sneaky way to get around being on a no-call list?? I don't even give them the courtesy of a "no thank you" and I hang up. Infuriating! And thanks for coming by my blog. :o)

I usually use the line...
"Um...thanks for your call.
I am busy right now.
Could you call back when I am NOT home?"
Click.
Let them think about that one for a while.
